Alexandra Kerwin was brought up in the heart of the brass band world in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. She began playing the cornet at the age of seven.

Since the age of 19 Alex has lived in Norway, Scotland and New Zealand, teaching, conducting and performing and releasing two solo CD's within the last four years. Alex now works as a teacher in Huddersfield for Kirklees Music School, for Doncaster Music Service and conducting Sellers Youth Brass Band.

Alex joined Black Dyke Band on flugelhorn in March 2008 but enjoyed a stint with the band in 2004 on soprano cornet being a part of the band winning the Nationals in 2004. In November 2009 she was awarded Bandsman of the Year which is voted for by the band members. Her career highlights include playing at Sydney Opera House, winning the British Open Solo Championship in 2003 and the coveted Best Soloist prize at Brass in Concert 2003.
