Sammy started playing the Tenor Horn at the age of 8 through the Hull Music Service were she also played the Piano and French Horn. During her time at the Music service she worked her way up to the senior ensembles for the Youth Wind Band, Brass Band, Orchestra and Jazz Orchestra. She also gained places in both the Yorkshire Youth Orchestra and National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.
Sammy studied French Horn at the Royal Northern College of Music before training as a Music Teacher in a joint course between the RNCM and Manchester Metropolitan. She currently works at Oldham Music Service as a Brass Teacher.
Although she studied French Horn Sammy never forgot her Brass Banding routes. While at Music College she played for Timperly Brass Band and after graduating and moving back to Hull she joined Barton Band. After two years she was offered the Solo Horn seat at York Railway Institute before joining Carlton Main Colliery Band on First Horn. After many great years in the band which included winning the Yorkshire Area, she left Carlton and was offered Solo Horn at Eccles Borough Band. Sammy really enjoyed her time at Eccles which included winning both the 1st and Championship entertainment sections at Wychavon in the same day. Sammy joined Black Dyke in June 2017 and is really looking forward to all the challenges and performing in fantastic concert venues.
