Posture and Breathing

To start we focus on posture & breathing. We will also look at how to produce a sound before learning your first notes, C and D.

A new scale

Following on from Bb Major that we learnt in the Beginner series, lets add a flat, and learn Eb Major, with three flats. We also look at the short notes - quavers and semiquavers.

Staying flexible

Welcome to the Advanced series! To start, we work on flexibility improvement, as well as Db Major and then we strengthen our single tongue.

New Notes

After a brief recap we will learn three new notes, E, F and G. We will explore the first five notes that you have learnt.

Staying sharp!

Let’s learn some sharp scales, A Major (3 sharps) and E Major (4 sharps). We also help you understand dotted rhythms as well as some Italian musical terms.

Expanding range

We will work on improving your range as well as double tonguing and working on the co-ordination aspects of this.

Note lengths and time signatures

We will help you to understand a 4/4 time signature. We will also look at some simple note lengths such as crotchets and minims.

A different type of scale

Introducing you to a Chromatic scale - one based on semitones. We also help you to understand simple and compound time.

Progressing further!

A new scale - B Major which is in 5 sharps. We will then look at triple tonguing as well as some Grade 6 music.

A new note

Now that we have 5 notes, let’s learn a new one, the note A. We will also explore the 2/4 time signature.

Sight reading

We will improve upon your sight reading and introduce you to a new note, Top F.

Staying Chromatic

We will focus solely on chromatic scales as well as lip flexibility. I will also help you to understand syncopation.

Your first scale!

Today we will learn your first scale! A minor is the first scale you can learn now that you know C, D, E, F, G and A.

Improving fundamentals

Let’s improve on some of the fundamentals of brass playing and introduce you to some Grade 4 solo music!

Be Dominant!

Dominant 7ths are the scale we will focus on in this lesson, as well as recapping on our double tonguing.

Another new note

Let’s learn a new note, the note B. We also look at 3/4 time.

Tongue and fingers in tandem!

We are going to work on coordinating your tongue and fingers to work together. Also…how to remember your sharps and flats.

Diminishing and recapping

To complement Dominant 7ths, we will learn Diminished 7ths as well as recapping and developing our triple tonguing. Vibrato will also be covered in this lesson.

Hitting the Heights!

We will learn the highest note in the Beginner series - A middle C. With this new note, we can also learn the C Major scale and arpeggio.

Scaling new heights!

We will learn F Major and F Minor scale, as well as Bb Chromatic scale. There will also be some higher level sight reading, as well as some Grade 5 music.

Sight reading improvement

This is our final advanced sight-reading lesson. We will then develop on the pieces played.

Looking at flats

I will introduce you to your first flat scale, Bb Major, which has 2 flats, as well as improving on your lip flexibility.

Hitting the highs!

The highest note we will learn today and in this Intermediate series is a Top G. We will also introduce you to scales on a 12th.

Going Solo!

Playing solo is a great feeling. In this lesson we will focus on Solo Music. These pieces will be of a Grade 8 standard.

From flats to sharps

Now that we know a scale with 2 flats, lets learn a scale with 2 sharps - D Major. We will also start on some sight-reading practise.

Building you Up!

This lesson is all about improving on your stamina, enabling you to play longer and better.

Practising for performance

Now that we have some solo music under our belt, let’s work on our performance practise.

From major to minor

Now that we know D Major, let’s learn D Minor. We will also improve on your sight-reading development.

Scaling Grade 5

Now that we know some scales on a 12th, we will introduce you to a chromatic scale on a 12th. To finish we will play some more Grade 5 Music.

Last but not least!

Our final lesson! We will make sure we are putting all of the basics into practise and we will play some more Grade 8 music.
