RNCM – Festival or Brass
January 24 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Black Dyke Band opens its programme with Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s Fanfare for Bradford, followed by Edward Gregson’s Symphony in Two Movements.
Gemini, by the festival’s featured composer Philip Sparke, is a double concerto for cornet and euphonium exploring the interplay between the two instruments through both rhythmic drive and lyrical contrast. The first half concludes with the world premiere of a new work by award-winning composer Bruce Broughton.
The second half opens with another world premiere by Jacob Vilhelm Larsen, followed by Yasuaki Fukuhara – both a Buddhist priest and percussionist – debuting a new work that continues his commitment to expanding the repertoire for solo percussion and brass band.
The evening closes with Respighi’s Feste Romane (Roman Festivals), part of his celebrated Roman Trilogy, in which each movement depicts scenes of celebration and spectacle from ancient and modern Rome.
