Solo Trombone seat awarded to Adam Warburton

Following Brett Baker’s recent announcement, Black Dyke are delighted to confirm the appointment of Adam Warburton as their new Solo Trombone.

Adam is studying at the Royal Northern College of Music and is a performing artist with both Rath Trombones and Denis Wick.  Before joining Black Dyke, Adam was Solo Trombone with Hammonds Band.

Music Director Prof. Nicholas Childs commented “Adam is a wonderful musician who I first met as solo trombone in the National Children’s Band and later with the Yorkshire Youth Band. He is a past Principal Trombone of the NYBBGB and won the Best Soloist prize at the European Youth Championships in 2019 and 2022, playing with Wardle Academy Youth Band, guided by their inspirational conductor, Lee Rigg. It was Lee that reminded me what a special talent Adam is. Adam was appointed as Co-Principal Trombone at Black Dyke some 18 months ago”.

“Massive Honour”

“I’m so pleased to be joining the Black Dyke Band. It is a massive honour for me to sit in the same seat as so many players I have greatly admired, especially my teacher, Brett.  I am looking forward to working with the band and Prof. Nicholas Childs. I would also like to take the opportunity of thanking Morgan Griffiths and everyone at the Hammonds Band for their support, friendship, and opportunities during my time with them.” Adam Warburton

Morgan Griffiths commented “When I first heard Adam play, I knew he had the qualities of an exceptional player, and it has been a true delight to witness his development over the last 18 months.  I know everyone at Hammonds Band wishes Adam all the very best for the future.”

Adam’s first concert as Solo Trombone will be in his home town of Rochdale on Tuesday 5th March, 2024 where he will be a featured soloist.
