Chris Hall, from Rochdale, began learning brass at primary school in 2003, later studying at Rochdale Music Service. He was a member of the Rochdale Borough Youth Band and went on to play with both Wardle Anderson and Whitworth Vale & Healey from 2013, before joining Pemberton Old Wigan Band in 2016.

Chris studied Music at the University of Salford between 2017 and 2020, where he was tutored by leading brass musicians Les Neish, Tom Davoren, and Brett Baker.

He spent nine memorable years with Pemberton, where he played a key role in the band’s success—winning the First Section Area and National titles in his first year, earning promotion to the Championship Section. Chris performed at the National Finals in 2019 and 2024, and ended his time at the band on a high with a win at the 2025 Senior Cup.

Off the stage, Chris was a dedicated committee member for many years. He took on responsibilities such as running the band’s bar and acting as the official licence holder, as well as organising fundraising events—including the creation of Banders Bingo, which became a popular and successful initiative within the local community.

Professionally, Chris works as Head of Software Development for a national insurance, mortgage, and loan broker.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the Black Dyke Band and really looking forward to this next chapter”.
